Advanced Topics in AI: Evolutionary Computation

Fall 2004

Instructor: K. De Jong

Prerequisites: CS 699, CS 803, or permission of the instructor.

This course will be a seminar focusing on recent developments and open research issues involving the design and implementation of evolutionary computation systems. The course will be a mixture of lectures and discussion sessions based on leading edge research in the field of evolutionary computation. Topics to be covered will include but not be limited to:

• parallel architectures
• evolving complex, nonlinear structures
• dynamically changing environments
• co-evolutionary systems
• agent-oriented systems
• evolutionary computation theory

Students will be expected to participate in and lead discussions on relevant papers from the research literature. In addition, a term project will be required.
